Geir Flikke is Professor of Russia-studies at the University of Oslo. He holds a PhD degree from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oslo (2006), with a thesis on Russia´s democratization movement. He was Assistant Director of NUPI (2006–2010), where he worked as a junior/senior researcher since 1995. Since 2013 he has been working at the University of Oslo.

His primary field of research is social organization and social mobilization in Russia, and regime-developments. His articles have appeared in European Security, Journal of Geopolitics, Europe-Asia Studies, Post-Soviet Affairs, Problems of Post Communism, Communist and Post Communist Studies, and Demokratizatsiya.

He is currently leading the VALREF project financed by the Research Council of Norway (2021–2025) and will during his stay at IFS be working on papers on societal resilience and political developments in war-time Ukraine.
