(b. 1968) Bjørn Svenungsen is a Cand. Philol. with a major in history from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 1997. He was admitted to the Norwegian Foreign Service' diplomatic trainee course in 1999 and served in the Norwegian Foreign Service until 2018, with postings at the OSCE-delegation in Vienna, the Norwegian embassy in Ljubljana, and as communications advisor and press spokesman in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He has been occupied with international policy issues related to cyberspace since 2013, as Specialist Director in the Foreign Ministry and since 2018 as a researcher at IFS/FHS.
He is now working on research projects which explores how cyberspace, the internet and global digitalization contributes to changes in the landscape of foreign- and security policy both globally and nationally, with a particular focus on the U.S.A, Russia, China and Norway.
Svenungsen leads the Cyberprogramme at the Institute for Defence Studies' Center for International Security.
