About us

The Norwegian Coast Guard (Kystvakten/ KV) conducts continuous operations in Norwegian territories at Sea.

Our mission is to safeguard Norwegian sovereignty and sovereign rights in Norwegian waters and zones.

We are also tasked to handle customs and environmental supervision at sea, SAR-operations and docking control.

The Coast Guard staff and command are based at Sortland in Vesterålen, Northern Norway - as well as on The Royal Norwegian Navy`s main base, Haakonsvern in Bergen.

Commander of the Norwegian Coast Guard is Commodore Oystein Dunsaed (Øystein Dunsæd).
