Handbook of Military Sciences
The Handbook of Military Sciences will aim at providing a comprehensive introduction to the many issues dealt with in the field of Military Sciences. More so, putting this first edition together is meant to be the starting point of a continuous process of assembling state of the art chapters that introduce the reader to specific issues relating to the description, understanding and explanation of military life, knowledge and activity. As such, it is our intention from the start to provide a major reference work that will keep on developing together with field in the years to come by adding new chapters and updating the existing ones regularly.
The first edition will be organized thematically into about 10-12 sections. They will include matters such as the philosophy of military sciences, strategy and the military, military design, military operations, military history, military and society, military aspects of defense and security policy, military profession, military behavioral sciences, military leadership, military management, economics and logistics, and military technology. Each section will contain 4-6 chapters written by experts in their field, selected by the Section Editors.
There is a premise for the project that the end product, the actual handbook itself, will be published electronically and be open access for all. This is made possible by the funding from the Norwegian Defence University College in Oslo together with the support from the International Society of Military Sciences and its member institutions.
