Sebastian Johansen Conte
Conte is a researcher at the section for Military Strategy and Joint Operations. He is a participant in the Making Sense of Military Operations project and works on the topic of philosophy of military science. Current work includes conceptual analysis of concepts such as the operational level of war and operational art. These are central concepts in military theory. The investigations seek to uncover to what extent these concepts are defined consistently in the academic literature and to what extent disagreement concerning the utility of the operational level of war stems from different conceptualizations of the phenomenon.
Other research interests are political philosophy, the method in philosophy, and philosophy of science more generally.
Conte is a political scientist. He received a PhD in political science from the University of Oslo in 2022, a master’s degree in political science from the University of Oslo in 2017, a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oslo in 2015, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2015.
