Åse Gilje Østensen holds a PhD from the University of Bergen, Department of comparative politics. Her 2013 dissertation is titled “The Political Agency of Private Military and Security companies: Governors in the Making”.
Østensen’s research is concerned with issues at the intersection of civilian and military spheres, including hybrid threats in the maritime domain, total defence, and private military companies. Østensen is a board member of the Norwegian Defence University College Board.
Østensen is also associate professor II at the Department of Comparative Politics at the University of Bergen.
