Tore Pedersen

Tore Pedersen is professor of military intelligence at the Norwegian Defence University College (NDUC), Language and Intelligence Academy. He is affiliated professor in psychology at Oslo New University College and moreover visiting professor at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. He holds a PhD in cognitive psychology and has master's degrees in the psychology of judgment and reasoning, in innovation processes, and in non-fiction writing, respectively. He has been elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and he holds a national certification as intelligence specialist. He has moreover completed the Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institutions' leadership program. 

He teaches and conducts research in the psychology of judgment and reasoning in general, more specifically critical thinking, cognitive bias, affective forecasting, as well as human-technology interaction, including aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) related to psychology and behavior. Currently, he is primarily teaching military theory of science, rooted in the philosophy, methodology, and psychology of science – where the acquisition of critical thinking is a recurring theme. Moreover, he supervises PhD candidates in psychology, behavioral science, computer science, and intelligence. 

Tore has been appointed to various national and international committees tasked with assessing and evaluating academic standards and quality in higher education and research. In uneven intervals he is also appointed as external examiner for PhD dissertations in intelligence and psychology, respectively. He has peer-reviewed manuscripts for international journals across a range of scientific fields and has moreover served as review editor for the International Journal of Environmental Psychology. He is currently appointed to the Regional Committee for Medical and Health Research Ethics – which are divisions under the National Research Ethics Committees. 

Prior to his position at NDUC, Tore worked as chief scientist at the Intelligence School, as dean and head of research at the Norwegian Defence Intelligence School, and as deputy director general at the National Institute of Occupational Health. However, his very first employment was in the Armed Forces, where in the early 1980s he served five formative years as signals and crypto specialist at the Defense Command Norway.
