COE-CWO Joint Concept for Cold Weather Operations Workshop
From 13 to 16 June 2022, COE-CWO arranged a workshop in support of the development of a Joint Concept for Cold Weather Operations in Oslo, Norway.
The main topic of the workshop was to design an experiment to validate the concept. The workshop had 26 participants from eight different nations and entities, but in total, there are nine different nations, nine different NATO entities and nine different COE’s involved in this community of interest (COI).

COE-CWO started developing a joint concept for cold weather operations in 2021. There have been two previous online workshops , so this was the first physically meeting of the COI. The concept is meant to be a tool for planners and commanders when preparing for operations in a cold weather environment, and aims primarily at the operational level. The concept is planned to be submitted to NATO ACT for approval in 2023.
The workshop was very effective, and gave all the results the COE-CWO was planning for, especially the detailed knowledge of the process of planning experimentation in exercises. There was also a thorough validation of comments from the COI on the existing draft of the concept.
The workshop also gave an opportunity to meet and connect with people from the COI of CWO, and it gave room for good discussions on the topics of experimentation and, of course, CWO.
