Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies
The Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS) is a leading research environment in security and defence policy. It conducts academically independent research on issues that shape international and Norwegian security and strategy.
Key research areas include developments that directly affect Norway, such as developments in Russia and the High North, as well as security cooperation within NATO and Northern Europe.
Our researchers also examine global strategic trends, including shifts in the distribution of power, emerging threats, and technological developments. This includes studies of major actors such as the United States, China, and India, as well as emerging challenges, for example in the cyber domain.
A further key area of research is the relationship between defence, society, and politics over time, including the development of Norwegian security and defence policy.
The Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies is part of the Norwegian Defence University College.
