Necesse
Necesse utgis ved FHS Sjøkrigsskolen.
Necesse er en skriftserie med én ansvarlig hovedredaktør samt et redaksjonsråd for hver utgivelse.
Serien publiserer artikler som belyser problemstillinger relevante for sjømilitær operativ virksomhet, for eksempel innen temaene:
- Militær logistikk
- Maritime operasjoner
- Maritim militær teknologi
- Sjømilitært lederskap
- Militær navigasjon
- Sjømilitær utdanning, øving og trening
- Internasjonale og nasjonale forhold som påvirker Norges sikkerhet kystnært og til sjøs
Necesse publiserer populærvitenskapelige og vitenskapelige artikler, og er godkjent som et tverrfaglig vitenskapelig tidsskrift på nivå 1 i det norske publiseringssystemet.
En vitenskapelig artikkel vil bli gjenstand for en dobbelt blind fagfelle- vurdering før den blir vurdert for utgivelse. Andre typer artikler som ikke skal vurderes opp mot nivå 1-kriteriene, blir vurdert, kommentert og (eventuelt) godtatt av redaksjonsrådet.
Necesse er i et «open access»-format, der alle utgaver kan hentes fra Nasjonalt vitenarkiv (NVA). Der er også alle vitenskapelige artikler søkbare og lagt ut som PDF-dokument.
Alle synspunkter i Necesses artikler står for forfatterens egen regning. Hel eller delvis gjengivelse av innholdet kan bare skje med forfatterens samtykke.

Articles should be written as either scientific or popular science contributions. The journal does not accept opinion pieces or essays. Authors should indicate whether they wish the article to undergo peer review or if it is intended as a popular science text. The editorial board will then assess the submission accordingly. Necesse can be accessed here.

Language
Articles may be written in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. Use British spellings, including –ise and –yse endings (realise, organise, analyse, etc.).

Length
Articles should be between 4,000 and 8,000 words. Popular science contributions may be shorter than scientific ones. Scientific articles should be between 6000 and 8000 words.

References
All submissions must include references and a reference list. The required style is APA 7th edition, meaning in-text citations should appear in parentheses (not as footnotes). The heading for the reference list should be “References.” The extent of referencing is less strict for popular science articles than for scientific ones.
Example:
- Book: Author, A. A. (Year). Title of work: Capital letter also for subtitle. Publisher.
- Journal article: Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume(issue), pages. https://doi.org/xxxx

Headings
Only two levels of headings are used. Headings should preferably be thematic, not structured, i.e. they should capture the content of that chapter or section, as opposed to indicate the structure of the paper.

Author Bio
All primary authors must submit a short bio and a profile photo. The bio should be approximately 100 words. Co-authors are also welcome to submit a bio and photo.

Illustrations
Articles are not required to include illustrations, except for the main image on the article’s first page. The editor can assist in sourcing this image. Images must be high-resolution and comply with copyright regulations. Authors may consult the Norwegian Armed Forces’ media bank for suitable images.

Abstract
All articles must include an abstract of no more than 220 words. Standard requirements for abstracts apply: the abstract should state the relevance, research question, methodology, results, and conclusion. Necesse does not use an introductory lead paragraph.
