Hva lærer du
Emnet skal gi en innføring i geografiske informasjonssystemer (GIS) satt i en militær sammenheng. Grunnleggende kunnskaper og ferdigheter knyttet til faget geomatikk gjennomgås, med hovedvekt på bruk av GIS i en militær kontekst. Grunnleggende begreper og prinsipper innen GIS blir beskrevet, før emnet tar for seg hvert ledd i prosessen med innsamling, bearbeiding, analyse og presentasjon av geografisk informasjon. Det legges stor vekt på teoretiske problemstillinger, samtidig som ulike tekniske hjelpemidler og relevant programvare benyttes for å gi kadetten grunnleggende praktiske ferdigheter.

Knowledge
Upon completion of the course, the cadet will have:
- Familiarity with the history and societal impact of the field (geomatics and military geomatics);
- Familiarity with various Military Geomatics capacities in the Norwegian Armed Forces;
- Broad knowledge of theories, limitations, and practical applications of GIS;
- Understanding of the geodetic foundation and principles of various coordinate systems;
- Knowledge of different data models for geographic information and the ability to describe relevant quality factors;
- Familiarity with various collection methods and their areas of application;
- Knowledge of the basic principles for the representation of geographic data and cartographic communication;
- Understanding of how GIS can be used to provide decision and mission support;
- Knowledge of MilGeo's role in the Intelligence Preparation of the Operational Environment (IPOE), focusing on steps 1 and 2;
Skills
Upon completion of the course, the cadet will be able to:
- Apply basic functions in GIS software;
- Utilise the collection of geographic information to solve a problem;
- Use GIS to solve military challenges;
- Employ GIS for terrain analysis within the framework of IPOE.
General Competence
After completing the course, the cadet will be able to:
- Plan and conduct the collection, processing, analysis, and presentation of geographic information.
