Emnet gir bred kunnskap om forholdet mellom strategi og logistikk nasjonalt og i internasjonale operasjoner, hvordan utforming av forsvarets forsyningskjeder påvirker strategiske og logistiske muligheter samt hvordan disruptiv innovasjon innen logistikk kan settes i en strategisk ramme for å skape operasjonelle og taktiske fordeler. Relevante temaer analyseres gjennom både kontemporære og historiske eksempler.
Emnet tar opp følgende temaer:

- Strategi i det norske Forsvaret

- Beredskap for militære operasjoner før og nå.

Knowledge:
After completion of the course, the cadet is able to:
- Describe the disciplines history, traditions, distinctive character and place in the Armed Forces.
- Explain and account for the relationship between strategy and logistics in the application and management of military power.
- Explain and account for which significance logistics has had in military operations from the Middle Ages and up to the present, through examples as shown in the reading list.
Skills:
After completion of the course, the cadet is able to:
- Understand strategy as a concept and be able to apply theoretical principles to understand military operations and the role of the military in society
- Analyse the role of logistics to achieve strategic military and political goals.
- Analyse how logistics is emphasised in current concepts and directives for the planning of military operations
General competence:
After completion of the course, the cadet is able to:
- Maintain the unit’s role as adviser in the field of logistics during the preparation of the unit’s strategy and operational planning.
- Maintain a general perspective on relevant military operations, and how this is connected to strategy and policy.
- Analyse military operations and their impact on society in a shorter and longer perspective, with particular emphasis on the resource dimension in the military forces, but also in society at large.
