Russia’s evolving military strategy, doctrines, warfare and armed forces

The research project traces the evolving contours of Russia's contemporary military strategy and doctrines, as well as implications the development has for the changing character of Russian warfare and its armed forces. The project examines the conceptual evolution of the Russian strategic thinking, and identifies transient and permanent elements in Russia's symmetric and asymmetric responses to the changing domestic conditions. The research analyses the current intellectual debates in Russia on what is seen as shifting ways and means to achieve objectives of war and the impact the process has on the physical transformation of the armed forces and the military organization.
