Hva lærer du
Discrete mathematics provides the cadets with knowledge and an understanding of certain concepts and problems in set theory and combinatorics, which contributes to logical and analytical problem solving in the field of engineering in the Armed Forces. Statistics will provide an introduction to basic concepts and methods in descriptive statistics, probability calculation, distributions and statistical methodology. This provides a basis that contributes to the understanding of information processing, and how statistical methods may be used for planning, control and in interpretation and decision phases.
The economics part of the course shall provide the cadets with an introduction to basic economic concepts and decision models, and give the students an understanding of economics. This forms the basis for conducting operations in the Armed Forces in a responsible manner where the economy is an aid to achieve this. The course builds on ING1502 Mathematical methods 1.
The subtopics Discrete mathematics and Statistics are taught by a representative from NTNU/Gjøvik. These/this representative is responsible for implementing the subtopics in accordance with this course description.

Special conditions related to the assessments
Both partial examinations must be passed. Any resit is in the assessment unit the candidate has failed.

Etter å ha fullført emne kan kadetten:
• vise forståelse for innholdet i de sentrale begrepene innen mengdelære, kombinatorikk og tallteori
• vise forståelse for aktuelle formler og regneregler innen diskret matematikk
• vise til grunnleggende sammenhenger mellom statistikk og anvendelser i virkeligheten
• vise forståelse for kritisk bruk av statistikk
• beskrive og vise til Forsvarets økonomi- og styringsmodell
• beskrive og vise til anskaffelser i Forsvaret
Ferdigheter
Etter å ha fullført emne kan kadetten:
• sette opp og regne med metoder fra diskret matematikk
• regne med symboler og metoder fra statistikk
• anvende relevante faglige verktøy
• benytte gjeldende regelverk for anskaffelser i Forsvaret
Generell kompetanse
Etter å ha fullført emne kan kadetten:
• fortelle med egne ord om statistikkens anvendelse og betydning på ingeniørfaglige problemstillinger
• fortelle med egne ord om begrepet «forsvarlig forvaltning» og om økonomi som et hjelpemiddel for å oppnå dette

Forelesninger (undervisning i statistikk vil foregå online), øvinger og statistikkprosjekt med dataverktøy.
Planlagt undervisning er omtrent 145 skoletimer eksklusive eksamener og lesedager. 40 av skoletimene tilhører økonomidelen.
