The course will give the individual cadet the opportunity to immerse themselves in a self-choice topic within the field of the Air Force Academy. The course will give the cadet competence to answer a problem using scientific methodology, evaluate the strengths and limitations of their own work, and be able to communicate knowledge in writing.

The relevance of the course to the officer profession is related to analysis work that is particularly applicable in staff functions in the Armed Forces. In addition, the course gives the cadets a good ability to critically assess the facts and analyses that form the basis for decision-making processes at all levels of the Armed Forces.
